In This Issue....
Dear Souls In Exile Clan Members, Over the (many) months I have been inactive, this clan has grown dramatically in the right direction, and I couldn't be happier that the Souls In Exile is now a self-sufficient entity and that it will continue to thrive and expand, instead of just maintain itself, without me keeping an ever-watching eye on the servers, website, and the members themselves. While our clans first server actually came from funds from my own pocket, I have not had to pay a single dime towards any of the servers for a very long time. It is amazing how our clan members value the gameplay we provide them and the HL2DM community, and that they are willing to occasionally donate a small amount to help us out. I am sure that in due time, as we are getting new applicants on a weekly basis, our donation amounts will rise even higher. It's only a matter of time before we are renowned figures in the Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2: Deathmatch, and even Counter Strike: Source communities! Our clan, in my eyes, is probably one of the greatest Half Life 2: Deathmatch clans. When The Enigma and I founded this clan, we never intended for it to be based upon how well you played, but on how mature you were and for you to be able to enjoy yourselves while playing. This philosophy has stuck even too this day, and I am very glad everyone in the clan is seeing eye to eye, and that the troubled times =s!x= has gone through are now behind us. Sincerely, Damien Grand Council Member & Founder Frag On! Back To Table Of Contents... * Clan News * As the clan has been growing at a pretty strong rate these past few months (see "New Members" below) we have fallen behind in our expansion of the Council to keep up with things. Our own members are rarely ever in need of admin to keep them in line, but more members has come with more servers, and more servers means more guests which may or may not be able to cope with our atmosphere of maturity and respect while playing. To help keep some eyes on things the following people have been promoted to the Council: Cloudfire7, Jerry23, & Darkman. We are sure that all three of these individuals will serve the clan well. Please feel free to approach them or anyone else on the Council or Grand Council if you think clan policies or server rules are being violated. They will be happy to help you. After a poll was offered in the Clan Only Chat section of the forums, the decision has been made to implement a much stronger "sv_airaccelerate" setting on public HL2DM server 1 and private HL2DM server 3. What this means for players is much more control over your direction while flying through the air in low gravity. Experiment with it a bit. You may like it, and you may not. We will be changing the setting back if we receive a notable amount of complaints or headaches from guests not understanding it. Back To Table Of Contents... * Changes to Clan Policies * Due to ongoing delays associated with clan battles and starting them on time, our Battle Manager SoDo has implemented some requirements for participation. Please review them if you have any interest in playing in any of our upcoming clan battles. Back To Table Of Contents... * Council/Grand Council Discussions * Topics which the Grand Council has been discussing this past month include: the implementation of TF2 permanent bans, clan events participation requirements, Council promotion proposals and policies, potential problems with a current council member, server 3 traffic levels, the air accelerate settings for HL2DM servers 1 and 3, and access to server accounts. Topics which the Council has been discussing this past month include: rules for locking/deleting threads, clan events participation, a suspicious forum user, the map rotation for TF2 server 1, Council/Grand Council member absences, application acceptance requirements, how to handle inactive members, and the steam clan group. Back To Table Of Contents... * Recent and Upcoming Events * Earlier in the month we finally held our first event within TF2 which was a Grand Council & Council vs Members battle. In this event the members showed GC & Council absolutely no mercy what so ever leaving us with one point in total on both maps. There will be no more HL2DM Bi-Weekly events with the MaX clan due to the lack of interest lately in HL2DM battles. Sodo has reached out to MaX to potentially convert the previous HL2DM events into TF2 bi-weekly scrimmages. Currently there are two scheduled events and one delayed: The rematch of the Grand Council & Council vs Members will be held on Sunday 3/2 at 8 PM EST followed by our first clan battle within TF2 versus the Khaos clan on sunday 3/9. We have one un-scheduled HL2DM vs 911 which will be updated in early March. Back To Table Of Contents... * New Members In The Month Of February * Please welcome our newest clan members! In order of application acceptance:
Back To Table Of Contents... * Recent Donations For The Month Of February * This past month saw 9 very much appreciated donations from 8 people. If you see these folks be sure to thank them. In alphabetical order they are:
A recommended donation amount is $10, though we would encourage you to donate as much or as little as your personal financial situation allows. You may also consider how much you get back from the clan in terms of play time and overall fun. If you play an average of 1 hour per day, then a $10/month (not even pizza money!) donation works out to just ~$0.32/hour. Every little bit helps! For financial privacy concerns, we do not release the amounts which people have chosen to donate. Back To Table Of Contents... * Game Review - Audiosurf * Title: Audiosurf Rating: 7.8 Audiosurf is a very addictive game. It is, in a basic way, Tetris mashed with Dance Dance Revolution (DDR). It has 3 difficulties, casual, pro, and elite. Audiosurf also provides a number of different ways to play such as avoiding notes that would count against your score or obtaining different colored notes. Now comes the unique quality of this game: it can use your collection of MP3s, M4As, WMAs, CDs and OGGs audio files to build levels. All in all this game is worth the $10.00 it costs and then some. If you do, simply find a Grand Council member in the forums and send your idea or your completed piece to them via a private message. Please be aware that not all articles can be included, and that all works are subject to editorial review. See ya next month! Back To Table Of Contents...
