Greetings Clan Member!

Happy New Year!

It's that time of year again.. Time to put up a new calendar on the wall, and ignore anything marked on it so you can stay home and play games with all of your clan buddies. It's also time to make those new year resolutions which you will undoubtedly fail to accomplish, such as camp less, and avoid that freaky urge that you feel to pop n00bs in the face with a magnum as soon as they've spawned. Oh well. There is always next year, right?

Peeking ahead, the clan can look forward to some changes very soon, including the likely addition of at least 1 new server. The details are still being ironed out, but with the new year will come some new toys. Keep your eyes open.

Lastly, we'd like to welcome back one of our Council members who has been deployed on active duty in the Navy. Dark Ninja has returned to us after a 5 month (or so) absence. It's great to see our members actively serving their country (whatever country that may be), and we look forward to seeing him back in action, on dry land!

Sincerely,
The Grand Council
Frag On!

* Clan News *

Because we’re such a friendly bunch here at =s!x=, we’ve decided to create a new forum group called the “Friends of the Clan" group. This group was created for the benefit of non-clan members who frequently provide good advise, technical support and generally help the clan out whenever they can. Currently, the only member of this group is Dr Timothy, who has provided an abundance of technical insight to us, as well as temporary hosting in the past when we needed it.

Due to the load which the stats database was placing on the server, HLStatsX player stats were reset at the beginning of this month. This means everyone is back at square one. This could be a big chance for some of you to get yourselves on the top of the list (though it looks like Quazar’s already dominated the top spot again). The reset was taken rather well by most people, so we may make this a regular occurrence.

* Council/Grand Council Discussions *

Topics which the Grand Council has been discussing this past month include: The proposed purchase of two clan servers, the removal of guest posting on the forums, the denial of a particular clan applicant, the stats database reset, and the new “Friends of the Clan” forum group.

Topics which the Council has been discussing this past month include: A controversial clan application, server FTP issues, server donations, and Council/Grand Council absences.

* Clan Events *

The recent bi-weekly scrimmages with {Max} were almost called off this month when {MaX} announced the shutdown of their clan. Fortunately, some of their members got together to save the clan and everything is back on track. You can check out the latest news on this event in the {MaX} Clan Bi-Weekly Scrimmage Thread.

Earlier this month, soDo set up a hugely successful intra-clan “mag_surf day”. You can check out the results in the Mag_surf day results thread.

Currently, there are no upcoming events scheduled for the clan. Keep an eye on the clan battles forum, though, because once the holidays are over it’s going to be non-stop in there!

* New Members In The Month Of December *

Please welcome our newest clan members! In order of application acceptance:
  • Rupshur - A fish & wildlife studies student from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Rupshur is rather unique in that he plays HL2:DM on Intel Mac hardware, running Windows.
  • Darkman - A gamer with an interest in web design. Darkman was the first person in a long time to have his application accepted based on a grand council majority.
  • Black Knight - A gamer since the age of 8, now attending college in Pennsylvania.
For more information about these folks, just check out their application threads in the "How To Join" section of the forums.

* Recent Donations For The Month Of December *

This past month saw quite a few donations. If you see these folks be sure to thank them. In alphabetical order they are:
  • Bellydonsah
  • Blar
  • CommanderFluffy
  • Dark Ninja
  • Føx
  • Justible
  • SilverMink
We encourage you to donate as you are able. It currently costs the clan $37.40 per month to maintain our servers. We can only add more servers when the donation pool rises to a level which provides the confidence we need to be sure that the next month's bills will be paid.

A recommended donation amount is $10, though we would encourage you to donate as much or as little as your personal financial situation allows. You may also consider how much you get back from the clan in terms of play time and overall fun. If you play an average of 1 hour per day, then a $10/month (not even pizza money!) donation works out to just ~$0.32/hour.

Every little bit helps!

For financial privacy concerns, we do not release the amounts which people have choosen to donate.

* Game Review - Mass Effect (XBox 360) *

Title: Mass Effect
Platform: Xbox 360
ESRB Rating: "M" for Mature
Review Rating: 9.4/10
Review By: DeathMonkey

BioWare Corp's sci-fi RPG "Mass Effect", on the whole, is a very well made game. The graphics are the things that stand out the most. The details, all the way down to the little things, were amazing. The only problem that went along with the amazing graphics is the time it takes to render it.

The battle system leaves nothing to be desired It is well balanced. The fighting system is a third-person shooter. The RP level system makes it seem like your not just leveling up, but growing your character to what you feel is best.

Another great aspect of this game is that it has an amazing story line. Although tedious at parts, it keeps you involved by giving you many choices in a conversation and your actions. You can become a renegade (evil) or paragon (good).

The most spectacular part of this game is the creation of your character. You can choose to customize many aspects. You can choose the gender and your background. It's simple enough that you can take interest, not no so simple that you feel you have little choice. Then there is the choice of you characters facial feature which has a host of options ranging from something as simple as the hair, to something as complex as a scar and the postion of many features of your face.

In my opinion this game well worth buying. I rate it a 9.4 out of 10.
