In This Issue....
Greetings Clan Member! We're happy to announce a new aspect of the Souls In Exile - "The =s!x=th Degree". Every month we will be publishing a clan newsletter for members. It is our hope that you will find it to be an interesting read, and that it will keep you informed about what is going on in the clan. Some of you are very active on the game servers and in the forums, and some of you.... Not so much. The =s!x=th Degree will be our primary method of reaching out to our less active members, and bringing you all back in to the fold. October was a busy month for =s!x=. Our server accolades have been juggled around, our Council has been through a significant overhaul leaving it vastly improved, and our game servers have seen some large changes in the back-end scripting. We are a constantly evolving entity - growing in new directions all the time. It has never been more clear that we need something to help focus all of these changes into one cohesive bundle of information. The =s!x=th Degree was created specifically for that purpose. So... Back To Table Of Contents... * Clan News * This past October has been a busy month for =s!x= with a lot of great stuff going on. Chief among these things is the long awaited return of "The Fun Server"! Council member Silvermink was generous enough to donate for the new server and is currently assigned the task of maintaining it (with a little help from RiscIt of course). Be sure to check it out if you are interested in "fooling around" or building something in a virtual "Source Engine Sandbox" for a bit. Just connect with Half-Life 2 Deathmatch to: hl2dm2.SoulsInExile.com In addition to the new server, we have two new Council members to welcome on board: Dangling Houdini and soDo! We're sure they'll both be fantastic admins and they'll be a credit to the clan. In addition to this, SoDo has also been made our official Battle Manager, so he's your man if you're after a clan battle. We're sure you've all seen our shiny new website that RiscIt's been working overtime to get up and running, and if not, where the heck have you been?! For those of you living under a rock, the site can be found here: http://www.SoulsInExile.com/ - Since you are reading this newsletter on the site, congratuations! You've already found it. Not only has RiscIt been working hard on our website, but he's also found time to implement a server side script which works around that pesky chat bug which Valve still hasn't gotten around to fixing, built a custom web-based administration site known as "Source Mortar" and he's added clan tag protection to the clan servers! Woohoo! Now you can all be sure that anyone wearing the =s!x= tag is the real deal. Back To Table Of Contents... * Changes to Clan Policies * Only one big change this month: Teaming is now against the rules on server one. Teaming is defined as when 2 or more players avoid killing each other in order to live longer and improve their kill/death ratio. Shouldn't be too hard to remember all that, should it? Back To Table Of Contents... * Council/Grand Council Discussions * Topics which the Grand Council has been discussing this past month include: the possibility of a clan GMod server, the usual council promotions, the reliability (or lack there of) of private party server sponsors, methods for keeping spammers out of the clan forums, and several others issues of a more private nature. Topics which the Council has been discussing this past month include: how to use the new admin system known as "Source Mortar", sorting out inactive clan members, the possibility of locking down the HL2DM 1 Deathmatch server late at night for clan members only, a clan member's steam account hijacking, the logistics of the recently re-born "fun server", and concerns relating to the maintenance of the clan's Steam Community group. Back To Table Of Contents... * Schedule of Upcoming Events * Normally, this would be the area you would read about all the upcoming battles, scrimmages and anything else the clan's getting up to. However, because the clan has only recently appointed SoDo to the position of Battle Manager, there isn't much to discuss yet. Never fear, however, as we're sure that next month there will be loads to read about. A couple events to look forward to include scrimmages with {MAX} and (STK) clans. Back To Table Of Contents... * Recent Donations For The Month Of October * This past month saw some great generosity, including the largest donation we have ever received. For financial privacy concerns, we do not release how much people choose to donate. If you see these folks be sure to thank them. In alphabetical order they are:
A recommended donation amount is $10, though we would encourage you to donate as much or as little as your personal financial situation allows. You may also consider how much you get back from the clan in terms of play time and overall fun. If you play an average of 1 hour per day, then a $10/month (not even pizza money!) donation works out to just ~$0.32/hour. Every little bit helps! Back To Table Of Contents... * Article Submissions * Do you have a well written informational piece on the subjects of clan culture or computer gaming you would like to share with the rest of the clan? If you do, simply find a Grand Council member in the forums and send your idea or your completed piece to them via a private message.
