* Welcome Letter *

Greetings Clan Member!

"Spy's Sappin' My Newsletter!" ...and by "spy" we mean "summer", and by "sappin'" we mean... Well, you can insert your own off-color innuendo here. Go ahead - We'll wait while you think of one... ...You sicko. That was gross.

Anyway... We would like to formally apologize for the lack of newsletter during the month of July. Our summer schedules simply got the better of us and by the time we got around to putting one together it simply made more sense to wait for August, so we did. We know that you're all just frothing at the mouth waiting to hear all about what's been going on, and we're sure that the lack of news nearly drove all of you to the brink of insanity.

But fear not! This month's newsletter has more content than any of our previous issues to date. So grab a sandwich, sit back, relax and enjoy this month's installment of The =s!x=th Degree!

Sincerely,
The Grand Council
Frag On!

* Clan News *

We’ve had a couple of very important changes happen to our servers in the past month, including the build server going private.

Recently HL2DM server 2 (the build/fun server) has undergone a barrage of annoying ne’er-do-wells and destructive delinquents. To correct this problem, we are turning the server into a private one, so that no one but clan members and sponsored guests are allowed on. For further details about the sponsorship system, check out the announcement in the clan-only section of the forums.

The forums have also undergone a significant change. There are now separate boards for each of the games talked about by our members, including the web based flash game "Battle Dawn" and all games in the Half-Life single player universe.

Have you ever wanted to know at a glance who is playing on our servers? Soon you will be able to get that information from a special website. Good news for iPhone and iPod Touch users - the site will be optimized for display on Mobile Safari! Stay tuned!

In other news, =s!x= member Chuck has been promoted to the position of Council member! We are sure he will make a valuable addition to the staff. May his steel-tipped boot of kicking always strike true.

Council member Jerry has recently taken over SoDo's post as clan Battle Manager. If you have any ideas or requests for clan battles, Jerry is your guy! You can contact him through the forums or in game.

Lastly, Cloudfire7 has also been promoted, this time to the Grand Council. He has a proven track record of making informed, responsible decisions and we're sure that he will make us all proud.

* Council/Grand Council Discussions *

Topics recently discussed among the Council include: the appointment of a new battle manager, a new automatic Source Mortar link system, a bout of forum disruption, the regard of a rule-breaking member, the creation of a possibly malignant group apart from the clan, and the thanking of the council for doing such a great job.

Topics recently discussed among the Grand Council include: ongoing Council/Grand Council promotions, the decision to turn server 2 private, the possibility of a podcast, the creation of a private mapping team board in the forums, changes to the clan website, the resignation of a GC member due to time constraints, issues regarding application acceptance, a small donation discrepancy, and the denying of a previous member's application.

* Recent and Upcoming Events *

Due to the role of Battle Manager transitioning between SoDo and Jerry there have not been many clan events as of late. Jerry has already set up a few events for the weeks ahead, however, and is open to your ideas for more.

Upcoming clan battles include:

16-AUG-2008 - TF2 - =s!x= vs. The Gentleman’s Club
09-AUG-2008 - CS:S - Intra-clan Scrimmage

Look forward to some Build/Fun Server events soon! As always, check out the "Clan Battles" section of the forums for more information and to sign up for member only events.

* Recent Donations For The Months Of June & July *

We encourage you to donate as you are able. It currently costs the clan $93.30 per month to maintain our servers. We can only add more servers when the donation pool rises to a level which provides the confidence we need to be sure that the next month's bills will be paid.

A recommended donation amount is $10, though we would encourage you to donate as much or as little as your personal financial situation allows. You may also consider how much you get back from the clan in terms of play time and overall fun. If you play an average of 1 hour per day, then a $10/month (not even pizza money!) donation works out to just ~$0.32/hour.

Every little bit helps!

For financial privacy concerns, we do not release the amounts which people have chosen to donate.

* Using The e_render Build Command On "The Fun Server" - HL2DM 2 *

Written By Clan Member "Sly"

I have created a minor guide for the e_render command, as it is tricky and nobody seems to be able to use it properly. Most folks seem interested in my ability to use this command in different ways, and asked me to show them how. I have created this guide to explain.

The Absolute Basics:

Steps:
1.) Point at the object you want to render
2.) Use the e_render command in the console (see below).

Rendering Observations/Formula (Using Inductive Reasoning):

The usage of e_render is: e_render X Y Z R G B

X, Y & Z have infinite possibilities. The results vary but I have found some arbitrary numbers with unique results.

R = 0 to 255, amount of Red you want; the closer the number is to 255, the more red

G = 0 to 255, amount of Green you want; the closer the number is to 255, the more green

B = 0 to 255, amount of Blue you want; the closer the number is to 255, the more blue

This is not like art class, as e_render X Y Z 255 255 255 isn't going to give you black. This command, like most computer color systems, uses additive color rather than Subtractive color. If you are good at light related sciences, consider the colors of the render command like the colors of the light spectrum. White is the combination of all the colors, and black is the absence of any of them.

e_render -1 -1 -1 R G B is the basic command.

If you are simply coloring set X, Y, and Z to -1, -1, and -1.

Anything else will skew your results to something you probably didn't want.

Practical Combinations and Primary Colors:

You can copy and paste these commands if you need to.
Red: e_render -1 -1 -1 255 0 0

Green: e_render -1 -1 -1 0 255 0

Blue: e_render -1 -1 -1 0 0 255

White (If necessary): e_render -1 -1 -1 255 255 255

Black: e_render -1 -1 -1 0 0 0

Those are the absolute base colors. Remember that you must alter R, G and B to change the degree of color, or to mix them.

Practical Combinations and Secondary Colors:
Yellow: e_render -1 -1 -1 255 255 0

Cyan: e_render -1 -1 -1 0 255 255

Magenta: e_render -1 -1 -1 255 0 255

Orange: e_render -1 -1 -1 255 128 0

Those are the secondary colors. Remember that you must alter R G and B to change the degree of color, or to mix them.

Advanced Uses Of X, Y, and Z (Sly's Tricks):

Note: You must change R G B , and doing so will add their respective colors.
Fade: e_render 1 1 1 R G B

Fast Partial Blink: e_render -1 -1 -1000 R G B

Slow Full Blink: e_render -1 -1 -500 R G B

Invisibility: e_render 1 1 250 R G B

Remember that X Y Z R G B are only variables, and should not be used in variable form in the actual console command.

That's it! Enjoy!
